The excellent reefs around Gili Air and its neighbouring islands, provide great diving for all levels of expertise, from beginner to professional. Sea Turtles are a common sight as well as Manta Rays, Frog Fish & Scorpion Fish amongst others! There are many professional Dive Schools in Gili Air that offer PADI courses of all kinds.
Snorkelling and Glass Bottom Boat
You don’t have to dive to see the colourful array of underwater life. You can snorkel atop the crystal blue sea & meet the Sea Turtles too! Masks & flippers can be hired from a few places around the island. If you don't want to get wet, hire a glass bottom boat and sit back with the little ones..
Join the locals on the break SW off the island and surf. Although the waves are nowhere near as large as in Kuta Lombok, they can still be surfed!
Hire a boat for the day and go island hopping with some snorkelling stops out at sea on the way. There are many local style boats for hire and fishing trips are available too.
The Kosaido Country Club is an 18 hole championship golf course in Lombok and is just a 10 minute boat ride or 2 minute speed boat ride away from Gili Air. It’s a great course for golfers of all levels.
Hire a bike and explore the island. There are some great little paths to find that lead you into the village. The friendly locals will help with directions, so you wont get lost !
Gili Trewangan is the “party island’ whilst Gili Air remains its "laid back neighbour". However there are a few beach parties & live music venues. The trunks of the palm trees act as billboards, as flyers are posted on them, so keep a look out to find out whats happening on the island!
Trips to the much larger and very beautiful island of Lombok are available too. The stunning Sendang Gila Waterfall or traditional pottery & basket weaving villages are popular destinations. Lombok is also home to the second highest volcano in Indonesia, Mount Rinjani and treks to the top can be organised over 2 or 3 days. Stick fighting, music and dance performances are also great attractions.
